hi. its been a while, and for this i can only apologize. since completing the records, i have been deciding what will hopefully be the best way to make these albums available. below is a copy of the blog from my Myspace. it should cover most things. there is more to follow. thanks.
after a good deal of thinking about the pro’s and con’s, i have decided that, for me, the best way to release music is to take care of the business myself. i am not a businessman, nor do i harbor any strong desire to be one, but the tools for making music widely available are there, and i have decided to use them.
it mostly comes down to a question of artistic freedom. in the couple of months since my album(s) were completed, i have had conversations with a couple of labels where there is a mutual admiration, i guess you call it. but, understandably, these are cautious times, and for these times, you have to plan. all of these labels (and any other small label you may speak with), will have a planned schedule for at least the next six months, perhaps more if they really have their shit together. so if you are invited, and if you agree to join a family like this, you must be prepared to sit on your hands for some period of time. this is something that – i will be the first to admit – i’m not too talented at. i want to put out another record in 2010 and an EP between now and then. this just doesn’t fit in with a lot of peoples plans, and it would be wrong to assume it would.
the biggest thing you will lose out on, (unless you are independently wealthy) is some kind of advertising budget, if you deem them necessary. personally, i don’t. the other thing is a team of people, or at least a person, who knows exactly what they are doing. in the absence of this, we call upon friends and we set ourselves the task of learning.
i also consider myself very lucky to have some gifted friends whom want to be involved.
so, a long story short, its all begun already. i have a massive list of tasks, but it should all see the albums available in around 7-8 weeks time. the exact release date will be confirmed as soon as it is confirmable. the records will be available in both digital and physical formats at a good (cheap) price.
other things you can look forward to are a new video, for which i am having the production meeting this weekend.
also a free single from ‘South December’ to accompany the clip.
details for this will be coming through in bulletins and blogs as the structure is set up (like sites, shops and other things i am probably forgetting as i write this).
i am not particularly a fan of trent reznor, nor nine inch nails, but i do read mojo magazine. and in the recent issue, he described this artistic world we live in, with the music indusrty as it was known collapsing in on itself, as the wild west.
its not elequant, but its certainly true. and i intend to claim a small province of this new land for my music. i strongly encourage you to do the same.
the label is called Mass Of Apathy records. its an imprint exclusively for the manufacture and distribution of ironlight river. i look forward to doing everything i can to make it a place where you are wamrly greeted and well looked after.
expect updates over the coming weeks. and i can finally get these albums out. thank you so much for your patience and support. it means a great deal.
my best always,
- andy.
